حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِقْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الأَوْزَاعِيَّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الأَسْلَمِيُّ، قَالَ كُنْتُ أَبِيتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِوَضُوئِهِ وَحَاجَتِهِ فَقَالَ لِي ‏"‏ سَلْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ مُرَافَقَتَكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَوَغَيْرَ ذَلِكَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ هُوَ ذَاكَ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ فَأَعِنِّي عَلَى نَفْسِكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ Rabia bin Ka'b Aslami who was one of the companions of Suffah and used to accompany the Prophet in his travels said I was with the Messanger of Allah SAW at night and when I brought him his water for ablution and what he required for Tahajjud he told me to make a request I said I ask to accompany you in paradise he asked if I had any other request to make and when I replied that was all he said. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); knowledge which is beneficial; or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (the deceased).” [Sahih Muslim] “ Commentary: The words of the hadith "His deeds come to an end" mean that he/she is not able to perform good / bad deeds any more and thus can not receive rewards anymore. But there are three kind of deeds for which he / she can receive rewards after passing away. 1. Sadaqah Jariyah: Any good deeds done by a Muslim which benefit the people even after death of the person who originated it. For example, the establishment of a free hospital, orphanage, welfare trus, educational institute etc. from which the people benefit will be sadaqah jariya for the person who established it. It is related by Abdullah bin Abbas RA that the Messenger of Allah SAW said I have been commanded to perform Sajdah on seven limbs - all the seven limbs resting on ground - both feet and also that we do not gather up our clothes or hair. It is related by Anas (R.A.) that the Messenger of Allah (R.A.) said: "During Mi'raj, I passed by some people whose nails were red like copper, and they were scratching their faces and breasts with them. I inquired about them from Jibril as to who they were that such a terrible punishment was being inflicted upon them. Jibril replied that they used to eat the flesh of men in their lives i.e. spoke ill of them and played foul with their reputations." It is related by Huzaifah (R.A.) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, "The tale bearer shall not enter Heaven." Commentary: It shows that tale bearing is such a despisable habit that no one possessing it will be able to gain admission to Paradise except, of course, that Allah may forgive him out of His Mercy.
